PHILOSOPHY

Approach

Most athletes don’t struggle to do the hard work. Many underestimate the power of foundational habits and compound interest. My role is to help athletes understand the why. I view myself as an educator first, and my best coaching relationships are partnerships where we leverage the athletes strengths and address any gaps, whether in training load and intensity or the foundational habits of sleep, stress, and nutrition.

Coaching always begins with a deep dive to understand your life. We discuss family, work, and commitments outside of training - and then work backward from there.

An athlete with two kids and running a company has different constraints than a 25-year-old pro, and my approach reflects those individual circumstances.

Methodology

To develop a training session I first collect all the athlete’s historical data. I use that to understand where you are, and where we would like to go. My role is to provide perspective (in and outside of training)dive into the weeds, but likely more importantly provide the 10,000 ft view.

I use a variety of training tools to implement training. My belief around the many tools and data is always grounded in: Is it useful? My job is to reduce the “noise” and avoid unnecessary complexity.

I use RPE, heart rate, lactate, critical power duration curves, and metabolic testing from performance labs if applicable. I build all my workouts in Training Peaks, deliverable to your smart trainers.

Simplify,

Simplify,

Simplify,

My goal is to simplify, so often for my athletes lactate, and lab data isn’t necessary. Developing a progressive and intentional training program with bench mark sessions to mark progress is sufficient. If your goal is to run a 45’ 10k, it’s my job to determine and communicate how we’re going to get there.

You can expect daily communication through training peaks with in depth analysis when necessary. Unlimited communication via phone, text and email. I only coach one way. My goal is to be professional, deliver short and long term planning and deliver training in 14 day cycles ahead of time with unlimited changes and adjustments along the way.
