“Matt’s a rare kind of coach - He knows the science of triathlon - but he’s practical and he customizes my training - which allows me to perform at my best within the confines of my life. What I also love about Matt is the 1 to 1 focus - I’ve had coaches in the past who promise daily / weekly interaction but become distracted and disengage after a few months. Not Matt. He’s engaged on an almost daily basis and for sure we don’t go a week without texting or talking. He knows all of my key numbers and he knows when to dial it up or dial it down. Any coach can write a workout - it’s a rare breed who can manipulate performance to exceed expectations. Matt’s a rare breed.

This is my 6th year working with Matt, and I feel really lucky to have found someone who understands my needs and my schedule. He is really intuitive in identifying the types of workouts and training plans that synergize with your personality, but also offers flexibility to adapt based on your current life situation. I love how he challenges me, and seems to know exactly what I need in order to be performing at my best. If you are into the data, he'll provide you with those insights. If data is mostly supportive to you, that works too. This journey with him has brought me to multiple half and full ironman finish lines, with PRs, podiums, and World Championship qualifications along the way. I cannot recommend him enough!

"I have been working with Matt since September 2020. I had never had a coach before, and as an independent person, I was nervous to give up control. Matt was great at setting expectations and communicating not just what we are doing, but why we are doing it, which made it easy for me to trust him. I really resonated with Matt's focus on process goals over outcome goals, and taking joy in the day to day rather than always waiting for the high of race day.
Within one year together, I improved tremendously and won the 18-24 age group at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships. Since then I've been racing as a professional, and even though I have limited training time due to my career, I show up to the start line with full confidence in my preparation and ability to hang with the best in the world."

Matt has coached me now on my triathlon journey for nearly 10 consecutive years. What a privilege it has been to have such a knowledgeable and understanding coach along the way. I am truly grateful for his guidance, support, motivation, education, and most importantly, friendship throughout these years. Honestly, I really cannot imagine participating in triathlon without Matt as my coach. From day one, Matt made it a point to develop a bond with me to truly understand me not only as an athlete, but as a person. Yes, Matt wants the best for me in my triathlon endeavors. However, he also understands there is (A LOT) more to life than just triathlon, something he often needs to remind me, as this sport has a tendency to become all-consuming. Matt routinely tells me that “stress is stress”. Whether or not that stress is training stress, or stress from work, family, or any other aspect of life. Thus, Matt understands being the best triathlete I can be is important, but being the best person I can be is even more important. Matt has amazing perspective when it comes to balancing my triathlon pursuits while trying to also live my best life. This bond makes me view my training and racing successes – and occasional failures – as “our” wins or losses. “Our” successes or failures. Likewise, when things go well, Matt talks about how “we” can get even better. Or when things do not go as planned, Matt considers what “we” could have done differently.
With all of that being said, Matt definitely knows how to get the absolute best out of me. How to push me to my limit without breaking me. He understands there are times to hunt greatness, but there are also times when achieving a personal best needs to take a back seat to recovering and avoiding injury, or burnout, or due to other circumstances outside triathlon. Fortunately, Matt approaches coaching with a long-term vision for my success in the sport. This is readily apparent when week after week, month after month, and even year after year I am constantly amazed at how much better I become as a triathlete. I started working with Matt in my early 40s as a very overall fit individual. That did not translate to a fit and FAST triathlete, but I was in good shape. Fast forward to the present and I am now less than a year away from turning 50. To this day, I’ve continued getting fitter and FASTER in all three disciplines every single year. That’s insane! In fact, (and I am still truly humbled and amazed by this), I have qualified for the 70.3 World Championships the last 3 years in a row. Not in my wildest dreams did I think that would ever happen. But Matt had a vision – a plan. I owe so much to Matt for how far he’s brought me along as a triathlete. However, knowing Matt, there’s still a lot left to come.

i have been in the sport of triathlon for the last 10 years and engaged Matt 3 years ago. His knowledge is second to none. Matt looks at the total picture and prioritizes workouts to perform the best on race day. There is no one better in understanding the complete athlete and designing a structure that allows you to fit the sport of triathlon into already busy lives. Working with him personally has been a complete game changer.
